Buyer Checklist

Here is a list of items to ensure you’re ready for the next steps.

1. Get Your Finances Ready
  • Decide how much you can save for a down payment
  • Check your credit score (A higher score could help you get a lower interest rate)
  • Figure out how much house you can afford
2. Identify the Right Lender
  • Check current mortgage rates
  • Compare at least three lenders (we can provide recommendations)
3. Get Pre-Approved

A pre-approval letter shows sellers that you are a serious buyer and can give you a crucial edge over other competing home shoppers. Keep in mind that a pre-approval letter is typically valid for only 60 to 90 days.

4. Pick Your Property

  • Choose the right neighborhood
  • Decide which features matter to you (number of bedrooms, yard size, etc.)
  • Make an offer
5. Submit Your Mortgage Application

Make sure to have the following forms ready:

  • W-2 forms from the past two years
  • Pay stubs from the past 30 days
  • Proof of other sources of income
  • Federal tax returns from the past two years
  • Recent bank statements
  • Details on long-term debts like car or student loans
  • ID and Social Security Number
6. Close On Your Home

We will walk you through the closing process with the following steps:

  • Costs to expect at closing
  • Document you will encounter
  • Negotiation for the seller or lender to pay some of the closing costs or prepaid items such as taxes
