Tips for Moving Homes

When it comes to moving homes, it can honestly be pretty frustrating. Packing everything you own is quite tedious and takes a lot of time and planning. We are here to help you out with some moving tips and tricks that can make your moving process smoother and hopefully save you some gray hairs!

Book movers early

Eliminate stress by arranging your professional movers early. This can ensure that the moving company can come on the day and time that you want. Especially if you are moving during a time where lots of people are moving as well, you want to get ahead of the game if possible.

Start packing as soon as possible

The earlier you start packing things you don’t use everyday, the easier everything will be. Decorations can be fragile and require more care so get started packing those into movie boxes sooner.

Declutter and organize

This one can be hard for some people. Donate clothes or things you haven’t touched in ages. If you aren’t using it in your current home, you most likely won’t be needing it in your new one. Organizing everything before you start putting it into boxes will make packing a million times easier.

Pack a suitcase with essentials

Pack like you would for a weekend trip (or even longer). Set aside things you’ll need and pack them in a suitcase so that you don’t have to dig through boxes just to find your toothbrush.

Bring your valuables with you

Consider anything expensive or valuable to you, like jewelry, important files or keepsakes. These are great to fit in your car so that you know that won’t be lost during the move.

Make address changes

Inform your banks, post office, gas & electric companies, magazines & newspapers etc. There are many important parties you’ll want to give a heads up prior to your moving date. Try and let these people know sooner rather than later.

Try and eat what you have left

Weeks prior to moving, try and grocery shop less and eat what you have. Get creative with what you can use so that you won’t have to move too much food on move in day. You can also donate unopened and any unexpired items to food banks as well.

Clear your schedule for moving day

Take off work if needed or rearrange plans since moving will be the only thing on your mind that day.

Have a plan for your kids and pets

You won’t have time to worry about what your little ones are doing or when you need to let your dog out. If the kids aren’t in school, find someone to watch them for the day. This is an easy way to take another thing off your plate.

Be packed the day before moving

You won’t want to have any last minute packing. Have everything ready to be put on a moving truck the day before to keep things organized.

Get excited!

Moving to a new home is an exciting time. Having a positive attitude through this process will make it much easier on you. Once you are all done moving and unpacking you get to enjoy your new home!
