How to Find the Right Realtor

Buying or selling a home can be a really exciting time in your life. Having the right realtor for you can make a big difference in this experience. Here are some tips to help you can find the best realtor.

Get referrals from people you know

The real estate business feeds off of referrals and who you know. If you have a friend or family member that recently sold/bought a home, talk to them about their real estate experience. Ask them if it went well or what could have gone better so that you can compare it to your needs. It’s also a great idea to talk to similar homeowners and see what realtors they used since those realtors will know the area better than others. If your friends and family felt they had a good realtor throughout the buying or selling process, ask for their referral!

Talk to multiple realtors

The first realtor you meet may not be the one for you and that is ok! Interviewing multiple realtors can give you a good idea of who will be honest with you and make you feel most comfortable during this important process.

Choose someone who fits your specific needs

Just because realtor A has more experience than realtor B does not automatically mean you should go with them. The whole process needs to be with someone who is going to work with you and for you. Relocating? Look for an agent who specializes in relocation. First-time buyer? Find someone who frequently deals with first-time home buyers. If a realtor doesn’t fulfill your needs like you want them to, then keep looking.

Look for someone who understands you

Selling your home can come with extraordinary circumstances and you want to find a realtor that can understand them. When looking for a realtor, ask what they’ve done in similar situations to yours. This allows you to feel it out and see if they are a good match that understands your situation and works it out with you.

Use your resources

Check out your potential agent online and find what their past clients have to say about them. Look at some of their past sales and see if they are familiar with your desired areas. There is plenty of information online that could be of use to you, so dig in!

Ask your potential realtor lots of questions

Come prepared with questions and see how they respond to your needs. Some realtors may have better answers than others, so it’s important to prepare questions before meeting and evaluate their answers.

Go with your gut feeling

Collect everything you have learned about your potential realtors and go with the one that suits all your needs. Finding a home is such an important time in your life and you want someone alongside you that is going to make it easier. Go with your gut and you’ll make the right decision for you.
